Just what does the election of Barack Obama mean to Glencoe’s African-American community? Join the Glencoe Historical Society’s celebration of February as Black History Month with a panel discussion of the effect of the election of the nation’s first African American president.
The panel discussion will be held at the Glencoe Public Library, 320 Park Ave. on Thursday, Feb. 26th, at 7: p.m.
This is the second year that the historical society has commemorated Black History Month. The follow-up discussion should be just as provocative and interesting. Glencoe is one of the few North Shore communities to have had a sizeable black population since the 1880s and is home to the African Methodist Episcopal church, the only black church between Evanston and Waukegan. The community has specific insights that are not found along most of the North Shore and Glencoe residents will be happy to share them at the program. Questions and general discussion will follow the panel.
There is no admission fee. Refreshments will be served. No reservations are necessary.
Join us for a stimulating evening of discussion of a major historic event.
