The Glencoe Historical Society has a list of exciting events coming up. Save the date for:

  • June 3 2:00–4:00 p.m.: Strawberry Sociable
Join GHS members and donors for an afternoon of sun and lots of strawberry shortcake. As usual, we will dedicate those bricks purchased by donors through the 2006 year and follow it up with unveiling of plaques in the garden honoring Eklund Garden donors. The Strawberry Sociable is a historical society tradition dating back to at least the 1950s. The afternoon is a fun one, with strawberries, whipped cream and punch to make it a sweet afternoon.

  • June 10 at noon: Lunch-Theater
Have lunch with Othello. The Glencoe Historical Society in conjunction with Writers’ Theater will have a lunch-theater event on June 10th. Join us in the Eklund Garden for a Moroccan-flavored lunch followed by an afternoon at Writer’s Theater to see Othello. Tickets are $65 for the event, including a low-cost ticket plus lunch. Subscribers to Writers Theater’ who want to change their tickets and join the group on June 10th must do that through the Historical Society. Call 847.835.0040 to make the appropriate arrangements. The charge for lunch only is $25. Others, who only want to come for lunch, may do so at the same price.

  • July 21 at 6:30 p.m : Second Annual GHS Garden Party
Last year’s Garden Party was the talk of the town! The Second Annual Glencoe Historical Society Garden Party will be held July 26 in the beautiful Eklund Garden. Come wearing your favorite garden party attire—including hat—and enjoy food, music and conversation. Indoors, the Eklund History Center will be featuring a new exhibit, Life’s a Beach so Dive Right In! The exhibit will feature many pictures of the Glencoe Beach through the years together with a “fashion show” of beach outfits from the turn of the last century.
