Norma Runner, Glencoe resident and employee of Mariani Landscaping, Inc., arrived this week with a large truckload of donated annuals for the Glencoe Historical Society’s Eklund Garden at 377 Park Ave. The annuals have been planted in the middle of the garden, over the spring bulb garden, and should be blooming well for the planned Garden Party, July 29th in the Eklund Garden.

Mariani Landscaping provided the design for the Eklund Garden pro bono and have been working with the garden committee to rejuvenate the garden. In the past four years, dead and ill shrubs and trees have been removed and large species of spruces and other trees have replaced them.

The Glencoe Historical Society’s first benefit Garden Party is July 29th from 6–9 p.m. Attendees will enjoy visiting with neighbors, music and a buffet dinner. In the adjacent Eklund History Center, the historical society’s newest exhibit, Mrs. Sharpe Steps Out, will be unveiled, featuring dresses from the Sharpe Collection, donated to the historical society by the estate of Helen Sharpe. To pay homage to the garden party theme, attendees are encouraged to dress in their finest Garden Party attire: broad-brimmed hats, gloves and flowing dresses or summer suits.

Tickets for the Garden Party are $50 per person until July 10; $65 after July 10. Mail reservations and checks to the Glencoe Historical Society, 377 Park Avenue or call 847.835.0040 and leave a message.
