The 4th annual Strawberry Sociable will be held from 2-4 p.m. June 11th at the Eklund History and Garden Center, 377 Park Ave. The annual celebration of the beginning of summer will feature flowers, the addition of 10 new bricks to the commemorative garden walk and the unveiling of a plaque honoring Vivian Zahniser, Garden Chairman.
Zahniser is being honored for her work the past five years on the Eklund Garden, which has been redeveloped and restored as an oasis for residents in the heart of downtown Glencoe. The garden is featured both at the Strawberry Sociable and the upcoming Garden Party, set for July 29th.
The Strawberry Sociable is an historical society tradition. In researching the background of historical events from the group’s inception in 1937, it was discovered to be a 1940s tradition, when many resident still grew strawberries in their yards. Today, the Eklund Garden is a veritable oasis filled with blooming irises, azaleas and flowering annuals.
Residents are invited to participate and enjoy strawberries and cream “sundaes” together with punch. Join us for an afternoon of garden enjoyment, visiting with friends and refreshments. Admission is free.
