Holiday Books for Sale at Historical Society; Research Center Reopens (Dec 15, 2005)

Looking for information about your house? How about searching for an ancestor who fought in the Civil War? Or, what about information regarding a former publishing house that was located in Glencoe?

These are only three of the most recent requests for information received by the Glencoe Historical Society Research Center staff. Director Ellen Paseltiner and her crew will search the archives of the society to find information about anyone and anything in town. While they can’t guarantee an answer all the time, they can either find the information or point you in the right direction.

The historical society research center has been totally renovated over the past eight months, with new flooring, ultraviolet protection on the windows and painting. Now unpacked and re-stowed, the collection is in excellent shape and items can be found either through the memories and knowledge of the Research Center staff—Beth Barry, Dan Goodwin and Barb Olinger—and the use of the PastPerfect database that is being constructed to log in all paper ephemera and artifacts.

The Eklund History Center is open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 2-4 p.m. on the second Sundays of the month. Appointments can also be made to accommodate your schedule. Call 847.835.0040 to make an appointment or email the historical society through its Web site, www.glencoehistoricalsociety.com. What do you want to know about?
