The Eklund Garden is resplendent following the installation of a significant number of perennials, shrubs and trees. John Mariani of Mariani Landscape personally sited each plant according to his overall Garden Design Plan. The perennials, including some native to the Illinois prairie, were carefully chosen with interest in attracting birds and butterflies as well as for their appropriateness to the Victorian home of the Glencoe Historical Society. The front of the garden was the focus of Phase II of the Garden Renovation Project, but trees, shrubs and perennials were transplanted by Mariani’s crews throughout the property. Extensive soil preparation, mulching, splitting of the garden's signature irises and the necessary reconfiguration of the watering system were all important aspects of the renovation. An understory tree donated by Mariani Landscape will be introduced into the garden later in the season.

John Mariani integrates new perennials into his Garden Design.
Sally Eklund before her death in 2004 requested that a bronze plaque be placed in the Eklund Garden expressing appreciation to the then deceased Ingrid Rosenfeld for her dedication and devotion to the garden. The completed plaque now rests in the front garden among Ingrid’s renovated irises so enjoyed by the Glencoe community each spring.
The many community residents and businesses that have kindly contributed to the ongoing Garden Renovation Fund-Raising Campaign, the considerable generosity of Mariani Landscape and the volunteer assistance of The Village Gardeners have created a beautiful public space for all to enjoy.
