Guest of Honor.
The Glencoe Historical Society held its annual “Strawberry Sociable” on Sunday June 12, at the Eklund Garden and History Center.
The annual event gets its name from a 1940’s document from the Society’s archives and is the last event on the Historical Society calendar before the closing of the Museum and History Center for the summer.
Miriam Hoover was honored for her contribution to the Eklund Garden Renovation/Renewal Project at Sunday’s ceremony. Over fifty members of the Glencoe Historical Society looked on as a bronze plaque was placed in the Garden memorializing her late husband H. Earl Hoover, inventor of the Hoover Vacuum Cleaner and a longtime Glencoe resident.
The “Strawberry Sociable” also included recognition of those who purchased engraved bricks memorializing/honoring individuals, family and friends during the past year. Bricks are still available and the order form is available online.

The campaign to raise funds for the Garden Renovation and Garden Lighting Project is ongoing with Phase II of the Garden renovation expected to be completed in July. The Garden Design donated by Phase I to be completed in 2004.
The Society hopes that that visitors will continue to enjoy the garden during the summer while the Museum and Research Center are closed to the public until September
Feel free to continue to call the Society and leave messages at 847.835.0040 during the summer months but be patient while waiting for a reply since messages may are retrieved infrequently by Society volunteers.
