Oak Memorializes Sara Eklund (Nov 15, 2004)

The December 30, 2004 issue of the Glencoe News carried a prominent article by the editorial staff titled, “2004 Top Stories” and story #10 is “Garden to grow on Eklund property”:

Longtime Glencoe resident Sara “Sally” Eklund died this year, but her memory will live on through her property at 377 Park Ave. where the Eklund History Center and adjacent garden are located.

In August, phase one of the garden’s renovation project was completed. The landscape was rebuilt to include a limestone-based gravel path, 15 foot spruce trees, azaleas, four mature yews, burning bushes and a red bud tree.

Future renovation efforts will commence in the coming years and include additional plantings and other improvements. Eklund was 97 years old.

The Glencoe Historical Society is pleased that the Glenoce News editorial staff recognizes the value of the garden renovation. We, in turn, thank our many supporters for making it all possible.
