In a year that has commemorated World War II with the opening of the national monument in Washington, D.C., as well as an exhibit at the Eklund History Center titled, The ‘40s, Time of Transition, it is fitting that the Glencoe Historical Society’s annual dinner Monday, Nov. 8th will feature Glencoe veterans remembering World War II.
The annual dinner is a celebratory event by itself—good food, good friends and an update on the activities of the society. This year there will be much to celebrate:
- Phase I work on the Eklund Garden,
- Construction inside the Eklund Center to create more display space and storage, and
- Mounting of new exhibits, including one about political buttons and another on the history of the Village of Glencoe seal.
There also will be remembrances of benefactor Sara C. “Sally” Eklund, who donated the property for the Eklund Center and Garden to the society and recently passed away.
The dinner will feature food from the ‘40s,—although we promise no Spam—from hors d’oeuvres to dessert, all homemade. And the featured panel will be Glencoe veterans who will recall their experiences—the good and the bad—during the Second World War.
Join us for this exciting event. Tickets are $60 per person ($40 tax deductible). The dinner will begin at 7 p.m. and be held at the North Shore United Methodist Church. For reservations or tickets, contact Barbara Javore, 847.835.0588 or send a check to B. Javore, 740 Greenwood, Glencoe IL 60002.
Please RSVP by Nov. 4 so we can get an accurate count on the number of diners.
