Second Graders to Visit Downtown Glencoe, Historical Society (May 20, 2004)

Nineteen friends and former neighbors of Sara C. “Sally” Eklund gathered May 26 to celebrate her 97th birthday. The party was held at the nursing home in Northbrook where Eklund now lives.

A longtime Glencoe resident, Eklund moved from the village in 2000, at which time she donated her family’s workshop and garden to the Glencoe Historical Society to maintain a museum and garden space in perpetuity.

The birthday was celebrated with chocolate cake and chocolate ice cream. Eklund is known to love and “survive” on chocolate.

The party was organized by Vivian Zahniser, Garden Committee chairman of the historical society. Most of the board members attended.
