To the Editor:
The death of Glencoe resident Ingrid Rosenfeld on May 9 was a significant loss to her family, the Glencoe Historical Society and the Village of Glencoe. She was a Longtime (41 year) resident of Glencoe, an expert in both horticulture and gardening. She contributed these talents to a variety of Glencoe beautification projects. As a cherished and respected friend of Sally Eklund, it was Ms. Rosenthal who identified the garden on the Eklund property at 377 Park Avenue as having the potential of becoming a “jewel” in the heart of downtown Glencoe. For more than 25 years, Ingrid devoted her time, talent, and funds to helping Sally Eklund rejuvenate the garden. In more recent years, she made a significant and greatly appreciated contribution to the Historical Society in terms of her time, energy and funding for the upgrading and maintenance of that garden. The present Garden Fund-Raising Campaign is for the purpose of continuing that effort. Today the Eklund History Center and Garden is open for the enjoyment of all residents of Glencoe, due to the efforts of both these women. The Glencoe Historical Society thanks Ingrid Rosenthal for her hard work in making the “jewel” a reality for all of us. She will be missed.
