Sports of All Sorts Exhibit Open (Feb 10, 2004)

GLENCOE—The Glencoe Historical Society Eklund History Museum will be open Sunday, April 25 from 2-4 p.m., for the last three open Sundays in May and June featuring a new exhibit—What’s In a Name? The exhibit takes a quick look at the story of Glencoe, Scotland, and its relationship to Glencoe, Illinois. Walter Gurnee named the Village Glencoe, but what is its Scottish heritage? What was the Glencoe Massacre? Who were the McDonalds? What about the first Village seal? View pictures of the beautiful Scottish Glencoe valley and pick up a few tidbits to wow neighbors when talking about the Village.

On these pleasant days also stop in to visit the Sports of All Sorts exhibit that highlights park district-sponsored activities in the Village, old sports equipment and photographs from the Glencoe News showing children and adults participating in sports from the 1980s. The exhibit will be available for viewing only through June, so take a walk downtown and come on in.

The permanent exhibits are always open: Old Glencoe, featuring photos of farmers and artifacts from Glencoe’s agricultural heritage; Glencoe’s business district, with photos and artifacts from its inception in the 1890s to the 1920s; and the Eklund Family Workshop area, with the workbench Carl Eklund used in making furniture. Guides are available to walk you through any and all exhibits.

Use the Research Center if you are looking for information about genealogy or your Glencoe home.

    Glencoe Massacre
We visited the site of the massacre in 1988 and were enthralled with the awful story. At Oban the picture theatre was showing a film about the massacre, and now I cannot find any info about this film which by now would be a video or a DVD. Can you help with any info on matter please?
