Hat Exhibit in Works (Jun 26, 2003)

GLENCOE—Hats off to the Glencoe Historical Society curators who are creating the next exhibit at the Eklund History Center—Crowning Glory, a look at the changing fashion of women’s and men’s toppers.

Curators Janice Gemp and Alice Glicksberg have been working all summer to create a wondrous array of hats—with an exhibit based on artifacts from the Historical Society’s collection ranging from the 1870s to the 1970s. Bonnets and pillboxes, snoods and top hats will be on display when the exhibit opens Sunday, Sept. 14, from 2-p.m. However, the curators are seeking two additional hat types: women’s picture hats and felt berets.

If you would have hats from the “historical” period of pre-1970s and would like to donate or loan them for the duration of the exhibit—through February 2004—please call the Historical Society at 847.835.0040 and leave your name and number.

Thanks in advance to anyone who is able to find these hat styles in their attics—or closets. We doff our hats to you in advance.
