Scouts have long played an important role in the lives of Glencoe youngsters. Most spent some time in troops, dens or packs at some time in their lives and proudly wore a green, blue or brown uniform. Glencoe Scouts camped at Little House or in Turnbull Woods and went further afield to meet Scouts from around the nation and world at Jamborees here and abroad.
The Glencoe Historical Society is planning a fall exhibit honoring the Scouts in Glencoe. If you have any Scouts uniforms, pictures or other items that were used by Glencoe Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cubs, Brownies or Daisies, Camp Fire Girls or other Scout organizations, we'd like to borrow them for the exhibit, which will run from September through February. Featured will be the history of Scouting in Glencoe—this is the 80th year of Girl Scouting here—as well as some of the sites associated with Glencoe, including Little House and the former downtown Boy Scout headquarters building. If you can see fit to clear out your collections, we'll also take donations of items and/or pictures.
Those with items to donate can bring them to the Eklund History Center, 377 Park Ave., behind 375 Park Ave., on Sundays May 19 and June 2 from 2–4 p.m. when the Center is open. We will categorize them and give receipts for what is lent. You can also call 847.835.0040 to make an appointment to bring them to the Center or have someone come and pick up your items.
Donors will be noted in the exhibit notes and we will return items in the same condition in which we get them.
