GLENCOE—Images of America: Glencoe, Illinois is the newest book just issued by the Glencoe Historical Society, a picture-history of the Village from 1835 through the turn of the past century. How the book was conceived, developed and put together will be the topic of the Society’s annual dinner, Nov. 18, at the home of Leslie and John Carothers of Greenwood Ave.
Authors Ellen Kettler Paseltiner and Ellen Shubart will present a slide show of some their favorites among the 200-plus photos in the book, as well as some of the “reject” pictures, or those from the Society’s collection that didn’t make the cut. They’ll review how the 10 chapter topics were chosen, where photographs were easily found—and where they were hiding—and the division of labor for “who wrote what” during the five months it took before the book was sent off to the publisher.
Join the Society for a dinner at a magnificent new home and slide show, Nov. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Leslie and John Carothers. Cost is $30 per person. Send a check made out to the Glencoe Historical Society to: Barbara Javore, 740 Greenwood, Glencoe. For further information, call the Society at 847.835.0040.
Images of America: Glencoe, Illinois is being sold at $19.99 each at the Historical Society, Village Hall, Books on Vernon and the Chicago Botanic Garden. To order a book and have it delivered to your house, call 847.835.0040.
