Eklund Workshop is Society’s Museum Now
Since November 2001, the Society’s home has been located at the Eklund History Center and Garden on Park Avenue in the Glencoe Business District, a donation of land and buildings from former longtime Glencoe resident Sara “Sally” Eklund.
The Glencoe Historical Society headquarters is the former furniture/upholstery workshop for the Eklund family business in furniture making and interior design. The extensive property, fronting on Park Avenue and extending to the workshop at the rear of the property, constitute The Eklund Garden. The former workshop houses a conference area, a research library for Glencoe history and changing exhibits assembled from the Society’s increasingly large collection of artifacts.
Permanent exhibits include:
- The Eklund workshop, including Carl Eklund’s workbench and tools, fabrics and business ledgers.
- “Old” Glencoe: Artifacts and photos from the earliest years including an ox harness, the LaPier Inn sign, photos from early Glencoe businesses, and a series of panoramas of business district streets showing how building and businesses have changed through the years 1930–60.
Revolving exhibits pertaining to Glencoe utilizing the Glencoe Historical Society’s Collections.
